TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 32nd International Islamic Unity Conference will be attended by 350 scholars, thinkers and political and media activists from 100 countries, an official said.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Saturday, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) said the international event will be held here in the Iranian capital later this month.

The motto of this year’s conference is “Quds (Jerusalem), Pivot of Ummah’s Unity”, he noted.

Three of the conference commissions will focus on the issue of Palestine, including one about the US move to relocate its embassy to Quds, he said.

The cleric added that organizing such a conference is an indication of the failure of the polices of the US and its president to isolate the Islamic Republic of Iran and a victory for the Resistance Front.

The WFPIST annually holds the international conference during the Muslim Unity week with the aim of discussing ways to enhance unity among Muslims worldwide.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
